FAQs

WHY DO I NEED TO TRAIN UNDER THRESHOLD?

If your dog is panicking when you leave them alone, then continuing to repeat panic episodes will make it nearly impossible to make steady progress. This does not, however, mean that you must remain attached at the hip to your dog! Instead, your Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer will help you come up with alternatives to leaving your dog alone.

WHAT IF I CAN'T SUSPEND ABSENCES?

Live alone? Have a busy schedule? On a tight budget? We got you! You'll find a happy compromise by crowd-sourcing alone time for your dog, i.e. getting help to cover the times that you need to leave your dog alone. In doing so, you also give yourself back some immediate freedom and preserve your bandwidth for your dog's training.

HOW LONG WILL MY TRAINING PROGRAM TAKE?

The initial alone training program is a 5-week commitment. Because each case is unique, we cannot predict how long it will take your dog to progress to your goals for them. Clients can expect to work at their dog’s pace, which often involves multiple subsequent 4-week programs before graduating.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR PRICING OPTIONS.

New in 2022!  Our training programs are offered on a sliding scale to meet everyone at their access point. The sustainer rate is the average market rate for a service.  The community rate is a subsidized rate with a portion covered by your trainer and community partners. The supporter rate covers the cost of the service and a portion is donated to support the community (subsidized) rate. You get to choose the program rate that best suits your identity and experience.

ARE THERE ADDITIONAL COSTS TO TRAINING?

You overall cost depends on the length of your program. Most clients work with us for multiple months before graduating. The only potential additional costs include veterinary check ups (as necessary) and a dog cam or white noise machines (if you don't already have them).

DOES MY DOG NEED MEDICATION?

Medication is available to support dogs working through a separation anxiety training program. Their use can be beneficial, depending on the dog. Whether or not you choose to incorporate medication is a conversation you will need to have with your veterinarian.

WILL HOLISTIC REMEDIES RESOLVE MY DOG'S SEPARATION ANXIETY?

Holisitic remedies should only be incorporated if recommended by your holistic veterinarian. Keep in mind that most remedies are not regulated or tested for effectiveness.

WHAT IS YOUR SERVICE AREA?

We work with dog parents all over the world! Train from the comfort of your own home via video conferencing. This will maximize your dog's progress!

WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

Clients need access to a stable internet connection and laptop or tablet. Clients will be asked to download zoom onto their device for virtual meetings. Additionally, clients will need a device (laptop, phone, tablet, or home security camera) with video and audio capabilities for daily training with their dogs.

WON'T MY DOG JUST GROW OUT OF THEIR SEPARATION ANXIETY?

We wish it was that simple! However, most dogs with separation anxiety worsen over time - panicking with greater intensity or even before you walk out the door. You'll have the most success using our specialized training plan sooner rather than later.

DO I NEED A CRATE?

If you are currently using a crate, then we can incorporate it in your training plan. However, it is not necessary to use a crate during training.

CAN I USE A BARK COLLAR TO KEEP MY DOG QUIET WHEN LEFT ALONE?

The use of bark-collars may suppress your dog's barking in the short-term, but with negative long-term consequences. Instead of stopping your dog's anxiety-induced behaviors, we encourage you to focus on reducing your dog's anxiety through a science-based training plan. You'll have the most success this way.
